To preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, making disciples to advance the Kingdom of God

Out of the Eater Came Forth Sweetness

One of my favorite things about the Old Testament is that pictures of New Testament truths are contained in the stories. God knows that some of us learn better visually so He has set up His book to teach us visually as well as cognitively. Also one of my favorite Bible characters is Samson. There is not another person like Samson in scripture and God used him in unique ways. Now Samson had flaws and failures and most of us that read about his life and the choices he made tend to dwell more on the failures then we do on the victories. But Samson is an Old Testament type of Jesus Christ.

Galatians Chapter 2 – Walkthrough

Review: Last week we covered chapter 1 where Paul gave the Galatian churches his calling and credentials to set up the rest of his letter to them as authoritative. He denounces the “other gospel” that they have so quickly turned to and wishes a curse on anyone or anything that would preach something other than justification by faith alone in Christ alone.

That Your Joy May Be Full

In the last evening that Jesus would spend with his disciples before the cross, he began to disclose new information to them. He told them that the time was approaching for him to go away but that he would send them another Comforter. He then gave glimpses into what the work the Spirit would do in the world and in believers, even telling them that it was for their benefit that he go away. They couldn’t possibly fathom how it would be more beneficial for them that he go away, but Jesus said the Comforter would not come unless he went away.

An Introduction to Galatians

This letter was written to address the controversy within the Galatian churches regarding the requirement of Jewish law for Gentile converts. It is also seen as a defense of Paul’s apostolic authority and a teaching on justification by faith alone, not by works of the law.

Sitting on The Fence – Pastor Chris Black

Last Sunday evening we were watching the movie The Greatest Story Ever Told since it was Easter and we had never seen the movie before. As a person who has taught Sunday school for years and been a preacher for over 20 years, I can’t help but notice the things that don’t line up with the scriptures. I’m not trying to be critical, I enjoyed the movie but there was something that got my attention. It was the relationship between Herod and John the Baptist.

Ecclesiastes Chapter 10 & Chapter 11

Review: Last week we covered chapters 8 and 9 of which Solomon speaks in parables about different things he has observed in life. He makes comments on wisdom, authority, how the righteous and wicked in life seemingly get the opposite of what we think they deserve, the sovereignty of God, and the day of death.
