To preach the gospel of Jesus Christ, making disciples to advance the Kingdom of God

For the Glory of God Part 2 – Pastor Chris Black

When I was young sitting in Sunday school and they would teach the Bible stories about the well-known figures in scripture, I would build up an image of the people used by God as almost superhuman. That they were so far removed from someone like me that I had nothing in common with them. We sometimes think that there was something special about these people that God would call them to work through. But when I got older and studied the Bible through a more mature lens, I realized that that notion was completely wrong. God does the opposite of what we would do.

The Song of Solomon Session 1 – Pastor Chris Black

Title and author: We commonly call this book the song of Solomon, but the first verse gives us the true title – Song of Solomon 1:1 The song of songs, which is Solomon’s. It’s actually called “the song of songs” and names Solomon as its author. The phrase “song of songs” is like “king of kings” and “holy of holies” which simple means it’s the greatest of all songs.
What it is: The Bible is broken down into different categories – the law, the prophets, the gospels, the epistles, historical, and wisdom. The song of Solomon is biblical love poetry that falls into the category of wisdom literature because

He is Comely in His Going – Pastor Chris Black

Proverbs 30:29-31
These verses are a part of a prophecy spoken by Agur to two men, Ithiel and Ucal. We don’t know who these men are, only that this was spoken by Agur and that it was recorded and preserved by the men of king Hezekiah. The Bible calls this chapter a prophecy, meaning that Agur spoke it by divine influence and all scripture is given by inspiration of God.
There are five lists in the prophecy that start out “there be three things, yea four are…”.

Ephesians Session 7 – Pastor Chris Black

Last week we went through the first half of chapter 6. Paul wrote that children
should obey and honor their parents and that fathers shouldn’t provoke them to wrath (bring them to resentment). He also wrote that servants should serve their masters as
though they were serving Christ and masters should treat their servants with kindness and respect because they have a master that sees all. Paul then admonishes the readers to put on the whole armor of God. The armor of God is spiritual because the warfare is spiritual. He writes that our enemy is not flesh and blood, but that we wrestle with principalities and powers, the rulers of the darkness of this world, and with spiritual wickedness in high
places.
